In December 2016, photographer Carlotta Guerra and poet Elsbeth Pancrazi started a project together. Without having met (besides digitally, through a collaboration for the Los Angeles online magazine 7x7.la- The Book of Matches) they decided to open themselves up to a special correspondence—regularly exchanging poems and photographs to share a year in their lives. Who makes a year-long commitment to a stranger? And what does it mean to hold up the bargain and create something together? In March 2019, Guerra and Pancrazi met in Seaview, WA, to answer these questions and crafted their correspondence into the book Take What You Need.
Take What You Need was designed and typeset by Njoki Gitahi in Brooklyn, New York. The text and titles are set in FF Mark by Hannes von Döhren, Christoph Koeberlin, and the FontFont TypeDepartment. Hand drawn cover type is by Jason Munninghoff. In July 2019, twenty test copies were printed on Munken Polar Rough paper by Esperia Print Evolution in Lavis - Trento - Italy.
